Highlighting shifts on pdf

PrintBoss is shifting the highlighting of text to the right when sending a document through. Everything else appears to line up the same as on the original document. Is there a setting that can be changed to resolve this?

There are a couple of choices:
  • Which version of PrintBoss are you using? PrintBoss Standard only allows ‘Overwrite Existing File’ while Enterprise allows Append. That said, Standard should be appending the PDF file
  • Set PrintBoss to append within a certain number of seconds.

Our guess is suggestion 2 will fix it as long as the PDFs are created by PrintBoss.
You did not indicate if they are using the PrintBoss PDF or a different PDF writer.

PB Ignores spooled jobs

Hi,

In an automation process, we are printing many invoices from Sage 300 to print boss. We generate pdf. Pdf files are named with their invoice number. The thing is we are not necessarily printing batches, we can print many invoices from many batches which means all prints are different jobs.We made a simple test where there were 3 invoices to print. At the end of the process we only had 1 pdf instead of 3. We went in the PrintBoss 50 printer queue manager and set the printer on pause. Then we reprinted the 3 invoices. We can see that the 3 invoices get to the printing queue (see attached file). Once we were sure all our invoices were correctly sent to the printer we un-paused the printer, all lines disappeared from the queue, but again, only 1 pdf was printed by print boss. We finally made a last test, which was forcing a waiting time (sleep 20 seconds) between each invoices printed. This worked, at the end of the process we had 3 pdf. So clearly something is going wrong with the print boss printer when multiple jobs are sent in a short period of time.

Is this a known issue? Is there a settings in the driver that can fix this issue?

Thank you

So I guess I'll have to use two different PB forms, as mention in my original post.
Thanks for your time and help.

Ok great this allows me to specify a destination for each copy. But I still struggle with the "confirm destination filename at runtime". How can I set it to true for copy 0 and false for copy 1?

Did you move PrintBoss to a new location? And did you run the Workstation\Printer Driver install from each user PC to the new location of PrintBoss?

Example:
PDF Tab Destination File Name use {PDFFile} as the variable.
Then Footer Objects:
#[C,3]Assign PDFFile, 'H:\Accounting\{YYYY-MM-DD} {Payee1} #{DocNo}'
#[C,4]Assign PDFFile, 'S:\Accounting\{YYYY-MM-DD} {Payee1} #{DocNo}'

Hi Nancy, thanks for your answer. Adding a copy and using #ProcessPage makes a lot of sens. But still, I don't understand how can I tell printboss to act in different way regarding the "PDF" tab. For what I understand the PDF tab manages pdf settings for the whole form regardless the copy number.

Is there a variable I can use to change the PDF settings?

Thanks!

If you have the Enterprise version of PrintBoss and if you can place a unique data element on the Crystal report that would trigger either an automatic or a manually filed PDF, you could have two PrintBoss copies (not two forms or .rpts) - one that would be for automatic filing of the PDF and another one that you require the manual choice of file location. The unique data would be captured and use in a #ProcessPage command to determine which PB copy to print.

Hi,

I'm trying to automate a pdf printing process, working with Sage 300 and PrintBoss. We do have a rtp "calling" a PrintBoss form. Now the form is configured with the "confirm destination filename at runtime" checked (see attached image). So that way the user can choose where to save the pdf.

In the automation process I need to be able to skip this question (but I still need to keep it for manual operations). Is there a variable or anything I could set in the Crystal RPT to tell PrintBoss to ignore the "confirm destination filename at runtime"?
I know I could copy the PrintBoss form and change the settings manually but that would be two forms to maintain.

Thank you

Verified on both the Configuration/Settings tab and on the Options/PrintBoss Driver Settings area are set at {WinUserName} .. appears that is the default.

Thanks !

The PrintBoss settings are as described in 1 and 2 below. They are instructed to check the number in the PrintBoss popup with the number that is listed as the next QB check number... whether they are doing, I cannot be certain. Only 1 location of 3 currently on this process is having issues. It's also the busiest location. In an effort to find the underlying cause, we felt the issue was 2 printing at the same time and which spool file made it to the printer first. But, if spooled and the spool file contains the data, there should be no confusion when printing at the printer.

If there are known issues with multiple users printing checks then I suspect the issue is likely the lack of verifying check numbers.

First verify that the PrintBoss bank record is setup correctly for QuickBooks.
1. On the Primary tab, Confirm Check # should be "Auto.....
2. On the MICR tab, Check Number format should begin with a B, either BBBBBB, BBBBBBBB or {BChkNo}

Then as the user's print check from QuickBooks, they will confirm the check number and then confirm it again for PrintBoss. Each user should be certain that the check number they confirm is correct and not just accept the number presented. If a user is not vigilant, the numbering sequence could be thrown off.

At our branch locations, we recently implemented check creation and printing using standalone desktop QB Premier 2019 and printing on blank check stock using PrintBoss - decentralized issuance. PrintBoss is installed on the server and each workstation installed from the network installation location.

We are experiencing checks generating with incorrect check numbers and out of sequence with the check number in QB. The numbers are synced and then the issue re-occurs. Our current thought is that more than one user is printing checks at the same time (which we have instructed not to do).

Is it likely that the cause of the check number syncing between QB and PrintBoss is disrupted with multiple users requesting checks to print, at the same time? If not, what might the cause and solution be to remedy.

PB is installed on 2016 TS.

Works perfectly fine for most users. However some users when a print job is sent to the PrintBoss 50 Printer. the only thing that happens is the- PB32.EXE is launched, nothing get captured. User has full control to PB Directory and to {ComAppData\...\Transfer} directory. A file is created in the transfer directory with the same name as the user.

-output from PBNTErr.log shows only :

PrinterUI.ThreadFunc , sleep seconds= , 5 , , , ,

When I print from an application which has been launched using "Run AS Administrator" it works fine.

PrintBoss Release 6.1 Dated 04/09/2019 - WorkFlow

A new feature has been added to PrintBoss Enterprise: WorkFlow.

WorkFlow assigns users to review checks prior to printing. Checks are batch printed to PrintBoss as usual, then PrintBoss parses the batch to users for review and approval prior to printing. WorkFlow can be as simple as having one staff user approve or decline a check prior to passing the batch to another user's PrintBoss Work file for printing.

To give an idea of how WorkFlow is scripted, here is an example:
#AssignWorkflow WorkFlow, ">CEO,Bill,Kathy,Acctg",

This WorkFlow will put the document in the first staff user's Work\CEO folder. Then as each subsequent user approves the check it will move to the next user in line, Bill, then Kathy, then Acctg. Your WorkFlow script will be customized to your User Accounts.

You can build a more complex WorkFlow to parse the batch of checks by a variable range for review and approval prior to printing. For example, WorkFlow can be set up to send checks >$100.00, >$500.00 and >$1,000.00 to different staff users for approval and printing. Checks take different paths based on the amount of the check. Script in the Footer Objects tab creates variables and IF statements are assigned the appropriate workflow path.

Approved checks are printed by the last staff user in the WorkFlow. Declined checks are manually deleted or over-written by the next batch. Declined checks are manually VOIDED in the accounting software by accounting staff. A list of the declined checks can be created and printed for reference.

In order to alert each user that there are checks ready for their approval, PrintBoss uses a Tray Utility.

The PrintBoss Tray Utility has several useful features:
  • It monitors a user's Work file to alert the user when a batch is ready for approval.
  • Click on the File menu and select ‘Launch PrintBoss’ or use the button on the front of the utility.
  • Click on the Edit menu to select Configuration. The ‘Scan Interval’ is set in minutes. A ‘Reminder’ can be set in minutes as well.
  • Verify the ‘Run PrintBoss Tray Utility on Windows startup’ is selected. You may want to remove this checkbox if you will be out of the office.
Please note that the use of WorkFlow requires PrintBoss Security be enabled and Advanced User Rights be setup for each staff user.
WorkFlow is documented in the PrintBoss Manual. Setting up WorkFlow is not covered under the standard PrintBoss Software Support Contract. For assistance with setting up WorkFlow, you can contract for dedicated time with PrintBoss Technical Support Staff.
